As NCT9-1-1 Communications Coordinator, I noticed that 9-1-1 telecommunicators are vastly unseen and under-recognized first responders, often forgotten about by the public. To address this issue, I created the Headset Hereos video series! The purpose of this video series is to raise awareness and celebrate 9-1-1 telecommunicators more, to the public eye. 9-1-1 telecommunicators need to be seen, heard, appreciated, and celebrated. To do so, I utilized a social media approach to recognize and celebrate 9-1-1 telecommunicator in the NCT9-1-1 service area. Specifically, I utilized a “Headset Hero" recognition form on NCT9-1-1’s website to intake nominations. Once a month, I created a graphic with the nominated 9-1-1 telecommunicator and filmed/publish a short, five or less minute video recognizing the nominee and their success story to NCT9-1-1’s Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn accounts. I posted the Headset Heroes video and graphic to NCT9-1-1’s social media platforms once a month. I used the Headset Hero video series to highlight one 9-1-1 telecommunicator once a month.
